The New Brunswick Federation of Labour (NBFL) is hosting its Women in Leadership Gala on February 17th at Legends Restaurant in Moncton. At this sold out event, three guest speakers will share their experiences as leaders in the community. Guest speakers include: 1) Colleen Coffey, Regional Executive Vice-President with the Public Service Alliance of Canada; 2) Johanne Perron, Executive Director with the New Brunswick Coalition for Pay Equity; and 3) Jennifer McKenzie, Leader of the New Brunswick New Democratic Party.
The evening will culminate with the NBFL recognizing two outstanding female union activists for their ongoing contribution in the labour movement. One award is for 2017 and the other for 2018.
“The Women in Leadership Gala is a wonderful opportunity for women and girls to come together and celebrate their achievements and inspire others to get more involved,” says Shanny Doucet, NBFL Vice-President responsible for Women’s Issues.
The New Brunswick Federation of Labour Women’s committee created the Women in Leadership Award to officially recognize the work of a union sister who is currently serving in the trade union movement with distinction. The first Women in Leadership Gala award ceremony was held in 2011.
