Daniel Legere is recognized by the New Brunswick Federation of Labour (NBFL), in collaboration with Argus Audiology, as the 2024 Recipient of the Owen MacLennan Trade Unionist of the Year Award. Argus Audiology donated $1,000, in the name of Daniel Legere, to the NBFL Blair Doucet Youth Summer Camp.

“It is such a pleasure to recognize Daniel Legere’s longstanding involvement and achievement in the labour movement. He is currently the President of the New Brunswick Federation of Labour, a position he has held for the past 5 years.” says Chris Watson, First Vice-President of the New Brunswick Federation of Labour. “Brother Legere always goes above and beyond in putting the needs of workers first. You will often find him encouraging activists to get more involved to achieve their potential. His work in this area has contributed to developing many union and social activists.”

Daniel Legere has been involved in the labour movement, in various capacities, for over 40 years at the local, provincial and national level. He started his union activism soon after beginning his career as a New Brunswick Correctional Officer in 1980, becoming a Shop Steward during his probationary period. Legere has held many positions within the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE), including local President and most recently President of CUPE New Brunswick. A position he held from 2005 to 2019, before offering as President of the NBFL. As a social activist, Legere continues to work closely with many social and community groups as well as being a long-time member and supporter of the NDP. He firmly believes the only way workers and Unions will be able to continue to make gains is through solidarity and supporting each other’s causes.

“Argus Audiology is proud to recognize Daniel Legere’s leadership capabilities, his years of service in the labour movement and his ongoing passion,” says Norma Eaton, Co-owner of Argus Audiology and daughter of Owen MacLennan. “Argus Audiology is proud to recognize Daniel Legere’s longstanding contributions to the labour movement.” comments Bill Eaton, co-owner and son-in-law.

Argus Audiology collaborated with the NBFL to create the annual Owen MacLennan Trade Unionist of the Year Award. It recognizes individual trade unionists who have made a significant and/or ongoing contribution to the labour movement. This award is created in the loving memory of Owen MacLennan who worked at Eastern Bakeries from 1951 to 1994. He had a strong work ethic and was an active member of the Bakery, Confectionary, Tobacco and Grain Millers Union (BCTGM) local 406 in Moncton. Brother MacLennan passed away in 2010.
