August 30, 2023

George Leaman is recognized by the New Brunswick Federation of Labour (NBFL), in collaboration with Argus Audiology, as the 2023 Recipient of the Owen MacLennan Trade Unionist of the Year Award. Argus Audiology donated $1,000, in the name of George Leaman, to the NBFL Blair Doucet Youth Summer Camp.

“I am proud to recognize Brother Leaman’s longstanding involvement in the labour movement, as a member of the Bakery, Confectionery, Tobacco and Grain Millers Workers Union. He is a longstanding activist within his union, labour council and the New Brunswick Federation of Labour,” says Daniel Legere, President of the New Brunswick Federation of Labour. “As a union activist, brother Leaman has been a camp counselor with the Blair Doucet Youth Summer Camp, since its creation, over 20 years ago.”

Brother Leaman has been involved with the Bakery, Confectionery, Tobacco and Grain Millers Workers Union (BCTGM), in various capacities, for the past 40 years. Currently he is a full-time Business Agent with the union, a position he has held since 2019. He has also been involved with the Moncton and District Labour Council for 40 years, participating in the organization of local labour day and the National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women events. George Leaman has also served as a Vice-President on the NBFL Executive Council for the past 24 years. When there is a picket line or labour-friendly rally in the greater Moncton area, you will find Brother Leaman there.

“It’s such an honor to recognize George Leaman. He and my Dad worked and were involved with BCTGM together. His involvement with the Blair Doucet Youth Summer camp, makes this annual contribution even more special.,” says Norma Eaton, Co-owner of Argus Audiology and daughter of Owen MacLennan. “Argus Audiology is proud to recognize George Leaman’s longstanding contributions to the labour movement.” comments Bill Eaton, co-owner and son-in-law.
