NBFL to hold it’s 56th Convention at the Delta hotel in Saint John from Sunday May 25 to Tuesday May 27, 2025

May 22, 2025

The New Brunswick Federation of Labour (NBFL) will hold its 56th convention at the Delta hotel in Saint John from Sunday May 25 to Tuesday May 27, 2025. Proceedings will start on Sunday May 25 at 2:00 p.m. The theme for this year’s convention is: “Workers Uniting for a Better Tomorrow!”

“With the uncertainty in the world today, such as trade war with the United States, having strong trade union movement to defend workers rights is more important now than ever. Unfortunately we live in a world where governments take the side of employers by legislating workers back to work. We live in a world where it is acceptable to cut school library services and extra supports for kids with additional needs.” says NBFL Interim President Chris Watson. “We have seen what can be accomplished when workers unite for a better tomorrow. We now have more affordable child care as well as the start of a pharmacare and dental care program in Canada.”

The Convention, which is held every two years, is the NBFL’s governing body. A busy agenda awaits delegates. Over 20 resolutions will be debated and voted upon, guiding the work of the NBFL over the next 2 years. Several guest speakers are scheduled during the convention, including Paul Wozney, the Nova Scotia NDP labour critic and Craig Walsh, UFCW Regional Director for the Eastern provinces. The Canadian Labour Congress will also address delegates. Tuesday afternoon at 3:00 p.m., delegates will elect officers for the NBFL Executive positions for a two-year term.

On Sunday afternoon, delegates will recognize the contributions of the 2023 and 2024 recipients of the Trade Unionist of the Year Award. Daniel Legere, former President of Labour, who died while in office, will also be honored. Two retired trade unionists will be inducted in the New Brunswick Federation of Labour’s Honor Roll.

The NBFL is New Brunswick’s largest central labour body with over 40,000 members representing local unions from both the public and private sectors.
